Creativity Continues

So, you're struggling on whether or not to grow your creative spirit... Here are a few more questions answered for you to dwell on during your week. I will be directing you through a series of exercises using The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. She has been inspirational in helping so many artists (writers, directors, painters, sculptors, etc.) find their drive again. Even if you're not an "artist" you will still find these exercises inspiring to help you be more creative in your own life.

Q: One of the central themes of The Artist Way is the link between creativity and spirituality. How are they connected?
A: Creativity is a spiritual force. Because creation is always an act of faith, and faith is a spiritual issue, so is creativity. As we strive for our highest selves, our spiritual selves, we cannot help but be more aware, more proactive, and more creative.

Q: Tell me more about the two central exercises in the book--the morning pages and the artist dates.
A: The morning pages are three pages of stream-of-consciousness longhand morning writing. You should think of them not as "art" but as an active form of meditation for Westerners. In the morning pages we declare to the world--and ourselves--what we like, what we dislike what we wish, what we hope, what we regret, and what we plan.
By contrast, the artist dates are times for receptivity, pre-planned solitary hours of pleasurable activity aimed at nurturing the creative consciousness. Used together, these tools build, in effect, a radio set. The morning pages notify and clarity--they send signals into the verdant void; and the solitude of the artist dates allows for the answer to be received.
The morning pages and the artist dates must be experienced in order to be explained, just as reading a book about jogging is not the same as putting on your Nikes and heading out to the running tract. Map is not territory, and without reference points from within your own experience, you cannot extrapolate what the morning pages and artist dates can do for you.

Work in Progress
Let's hit the running track now with your morning pages and artist dates, once a week, if possible. If you write each morning just what you're thinking, how you feel, what you're stressed about, etc., eventually you will reach inward deeper and reveal some hidden truths within you that are buried. I look forward to the journey together. This is a personal journey, but we'll share some, too. I plan on holding a Paint-Out with women in my area in March, so let me know if you're up to the challenge! Don't worry, I'll walk you through each step of the painting and you'll walk away with a "masterpiece."

Looking back and feeling fine!

Awesome Artwork Collage

You can create a photo collage of your artwork at PicMonkey.
Five of these paintings have sold already!

I want to thank Leslie Saeta for creating this 30 day painting challenge. Also, her radio blog show called "Artists Helping Artists" has been a major influence. Without outside forces on our life, what would we become? Challenges help us to find our inner strength which comes from our Creator. He is the Creative Genius behind our spirits. Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!

Are you up to the challenge of finding your creative spirit which may be buried. I want to help guide you through "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron in the next couple of months. So, join me and others as we find our creativity and grow stronger!

This was my first piece to sell in a gallery and I still am thankful for that boost in my career as an artist.

Day 25 of 30 Day Painting Challenge

Bowing Down
7x5" panel
$50

"We bow down and we worship You, Lord!"
The Creator in His creation of all things beautiful deserves our adoration and heartsong.
We are blessed to be able to worship Him!
This study in oils with yellow and purple allows me to focus on value and minimal use of color.
Only 5 more horses left to paint in the painting challenge.

Day 24 of 30 Day Painting Challenge

Out of Nowhere
Chinese ink on paper

"Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?" (Matthew 8:27)
His power is so strong and comes at the strangest times, so be on the alert for Him. He may appear to you from "out of nowhere."
Have a blessed day!

Thanks to Leslie Saeta for her painting challenge and the inspiration from all the other artists!

Day 22 of 30 Day Painting Challenge

High Stepping
Chinese ink drawing

Leslie Saeta's 30 Day Painting Challenge - let's say, "Yay, for me!" At the beginning, I was thinking I couldn't do it, but I knew the challenge would help me feel more accountable. In life, we have to share ourselves with others, sometimes so we will continue to do good things or stop doing bad things. Accountability can help us be better people. I have used a few older paintings for this challenge recently, but I'm getting back into making new stuff and I feel energized! I'm high-stepping now!

Day 21 of 30 Day Painting Challenge

Curious Foal
acrylic on canvas

Those child-like eyes are searching for something new to learn. Do we keep that same spirit through life?
Look closer at things you normally take for granted and you may find some inspiration.
When we become like children, we are pleasing our Maker.

Day 14 of 30 Day Painting Challenge

Fresian Blue
5x7" oil on archival panel
$50

The strength and majesty of Fresians and Gypsy Vanner horses takes our attention. I love their flowing mane and tails, along with their "feather" of hair on their legs.
Let me know if you know of anyone who owns a Fresian or Gypsy Vanner who I could paint. Thanks!

Day 13 of 30 Day Painting Challenge

Color Me Blue
5x7" oil on archival panel
$50

With all the rain we've had, I guess my Blue Series has been fitting. This fella reminds me of a Chinese ink drawing. I enjoyed letting the brush dance and tickle the canvas.
Day 13 isn't so bad, after all.
This study was the fastest painting I've done for this challenge, and I really like how it turned out.
