Dueling Stallions

Dueling Stallions
Each stands alone
9x12x2" wooden box
Work in progress

These two stallions are struggling, yet not on the same dimension. I'm getting the layout set before I paint them. I'll lay in some color with acrylic, maybe overlaying it with oils later. They're starting out realistic, but I have a feeling they're going to tear into one another and get abstract before it's over. Looking forward to playing with color!

Day 28 of 30 Day Painting Challenge

Giacomo's Show
24x16" framed in silver frame

This sculptural description of famous racehorse, Giacomo, hangs in the Paul Sawyier Art Gallery in Frankfort. I wanted an unusual cropping for him. I love color, but this one is toned down from my usual color choices.
Every day we have choices. Each of us has to determine which way our lives should go and with God's help, we can find our true path.

Day 23 of 30 Day Painting Challenge

"Lowly State"
Chinese ink

I'm getting interested in ink drawings, so bear with me while I experiment. I enjoy doing horse paintings more than any other. I just hope I can express them even more elegantly. I've got to keep a humble state of mind and not think more highly of myself than I ought (Romans 12:3).

Day 22 of 30 Day Painting Challenge

High Stepping
Chinese ink drawing

Leslie Saeta's 30 Day Painting Challenge - let's say, "Yay, for me!" At the beginning, I was thinking I couldn't do it, but I knew the challenge would help me feel more accountable. In life, we have to share ourselves with others, sometimes so we will continue to do good things or stop doing bad things. Accountability can help us be better people. I have used a few older paintings for this challenge recently, but I'm getting back into making new stuff and I feel energized! I'm high-stepping now!

Day 20 of 30 Day Painting Challenge

Earth, Fire, Wind
Triptych on 30x10" stretched canvas
acrylic

Email me with inquiries by commenting on this photo.

We all struggle with the earthly desires, the fire of passion, and the winds that carry us about.
Let us find our strength in the Rock Everlasting.
We are only strong when we are on His shoulders and He carries us.

Day 19 of 30 Day Painting Challenge

Old Gray Mare
9x12" oil on Gessobord

Using lots of color has become addictive. The flat surface of the board is more appealing to me than the canvas right now. I like the slick paint as it spreads on the surface. Look more closely at the splashes of color in the background.  This painting has been purchased, but please email me if you want one like it for your own (www.prsrtst@yahoo.com).
Thanks for taking a moment to look at my art. I hope you feel joy and excitement!

Day 14 of 30 Day Painting Challenge

Fresian Blue
5x7" oil on archival panel
$50

The strength and majesty of Fresians and Gypsy Vanner horses takes our attention. I love their flowing mane and tails, along with their "feather" of hair on their legs.
Let me know if you know of anyone who owns a Fresian or Gypsy Vanner who I could paint. Thanks!

Day 13 of 30 Day Painting Challenge

Color Me Blue
5x7" oil on archival panel
$50

With all the rain we've had, I guess my Blue Series has been fitting. This fella reminds me of a Chinese ink drawing. I enjoyed letting the brush dance and tickle the canvas.
Day 13 isn't so bad, after all.
This study was the fastest painting I've done for this challenge, and I really like how it turned out.

Day 12 of 30 Day Painting Challenge

Midnight Ride
5x7" oil on Ampersand Smooth Finish Panel
$50

Simplifying my palette had allowed me to focus on value and contrast, which I'm loving!
Sunday morning, new fresh envigorating feeling. "This is the day which the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24
May blessings fill your heart as you count on Him to give you all you need.

New Every Morning

Flying Colors Palette Knife Acrylic Painting by Paris Artist Rachel Holland
16x12 acrylic on canvas
$225

This painting will be on display at the Creative Harvest Equine Art Display at the Hopewell Museum in Paris, Kentucky from Sept. 10-Nov. 14.

When we seem burdened by life and all the "busy-ness," take time to realize the beauty of each new day and the greatness of our Lord.

"His compassions fail not, they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness." Lamentations 3:22-23

Barrel update

The barrel keeps leaking whiskey-too bad I don't drink, huh? Well, I've gotten pretty close to the barrel with all the rolling around to sun it and dry it out. This is the final week to paint on it. The lovely flowers will not be auctioned off like the barrel will be.

Bourbon whiskey barrel

Started working on a barrel to be auctioned off at the 3rd Annual Secretariat Festival in Sept.-Oct. 2010. Yes, Claiborne Farm is where Secretariat was raised.

The World Equestrian Games are coming this year as well. Check out this site and come visit Paris this fall.

Today is Derby Day and there are several horses from Bourbon County where I live. Paddy O'Prada and Awesome Act are two from Adena Springs Farm.
